USCIS Infopass Appointments as We Knew Them Are Dead in 2019
As of this writing, you can still find the USCIS Infopass directions on the USCIS website, but those directions are meaningless for 99% of those seeking a USCIS appointment.
This is because USCIS Infopass has been phased out at almost all USCIS locations across the country. If you were to go to the page that USCIS directs you to to make a USCIS infopass appointment, and you were to then input your zip code, chances are you will be greeted with the following screen:
But the thing is, you can still make an appointment. It is just much harder and more time consuming than it used to be. To make a USCIS Infopass appointment today requires patience, to say the very least, but it can also be confusing.
The following 11 steps break down this frustrating new process, and if you want to get a clear view into my personal feelings on the overall stupidity of what those of us seeking appoinments are now required to do, check out the “USCIS Infopass Help for 2019” video on our Youtube channel. The video is a good accompaniment to this blogpost.
The 11 Steps to Making a USCIS Infopass Appointment in 2019
Time needed: 2 days and 1 hour
There are 11 steps you must take:
- You must call 1-(800)-375-5283 and ask to make an Infopass appointment for your case
At this stage you should be prepared with the following:
1.) Your case receipt number
2.) Your Alien number (i.e. “A number”), if any
3.) Your birthday (or your client’s birthday)
4.) The address you submitted to USCIS as part of your application packet
5.) A good phone number to reach you
6.) A reason as to why you need an Infopass appointment (i.e. your permanent resident card expired while you have been waiting on the renewal to process) - Assuming that the phone agent agrees to give you an Infopass appointment, you will give a call back number. You then HAVE TO WAIT 48-72 hours*.
Two Key Things to Remember:
1.) The call back from USCIS will come in 48-72 hours.
2.) It can come Monday-Friday, but also on Saturdays.
In our experience, the calls have come from call centers on the West and East Coast. For those on the East Coast, this may mean that you will receive a call up to 8pm at night, as the call centers on the West Coast go until 5 p.m. West Coasters, be prepared to get an Infopass callback early in the morning at 5 a.m. The call can also come on Saturday at an inopportune time.
*the fact that it takes at least 48 hours is why we have the time needed to complete this at 2 days and 1 hour. It is 1 hour for the phone calls that are required and 2 days for the wait. - Keep your phone on, charged, and off of Do Not Disturb until you get the call
If you don’t, and you miss the call, you will have to start the whole process over again.
- When you get the callback, have the same information ready as you did in Step 1.
For this reason it is good to have this information handy with you as you move about in your daily commute and schedule.
You will be given a choice of dates to come in for the Infopass appointment. So you should also have a good idea of what days you are free. Our advice is to take what is available as the next opportunity beyond those offered is often very far out. - Write down your Confirmation Number and Pin Number
The USCIS call back officer will give you a Confirmation Number and Pin Number that you must write down and keep in a safe place. After the call, the officer will send an email that will allow you to login to see your appointment and print off your confirmation that you will need to get into your Infopass appointment on the allotted day. That email looks like this:
- Visit the Appointment Website
1.) Follow the prompt in the email and go to the USCIS Appointment site, which is now at the following address (notice the /v2, signifying version 2, in the address):
https://my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/v2
2.) Click “View Your Appointment” - Review your Appointment and Print it Off
- Put in Your Confirmation # and Pin # when prompted:
You will be prompted for the Confirmation# and Pin# you remembered to save in Step 5
- Review Your Appointment
Once you enter your confirmation number and pin, review your USCIS Infopass appointment to make sure all information is correct. Print it off.
- Print Your Appointment
Oddly enough, to print your appointment you need to go back to the screen in Step 8, and this time you should put in your name and birth date, as it appears on your USCIS paperwork, and then you will be sent to the screen where you have to print what has to be brought to the appointment. Even though this seems to be for Reprints, it is actually the only way to print something out.
- Bring your appointment letter from Step 10, Government ID, and any relevant documents to your appointment
What documents you bring is completely dependent on why you are going to an appointment
If you need to cancel your USCIS Infopass Appointment
If after all of this you need to cancel your appointment then start at Step 5 above, go to Step 9, and on the page featured at Step 9, click the “Cancel Appointment” or “Reschedule Appointment” button.
Final Thoughts
If you are frustrated having to do this, then believe us, lawyers are, too. But for now, this is how it is. If things change, we will update this post. I went for my I-751 application’s biometrics appointment on Monday after getting done I got back and realised that I lost my CR1 conditional expired Green card but I have the original extension letter and I’ve to travel abroad next month. Now I notified USCIS by phone around 03:30pm on Monday 18th Nov, regarding this issue and asked them that “I need to get my passport stamped so that I can travel abroad”, but as usual, the agent told me I’ll get a call back in 72 hours and so far I am still waiting & honestly it is very frustrating and I can’t concentrate on anything until this Infopass thing is sorted out.
